The EMIFF - Estado de México International Film Festival 2016 is finally opening today, Saturday 19th November, in Toluca de Lerdo, capital of the State of Mexico (Mexico), after a failed attempt last December 2015.

This first edition of the EMIFF of Toluca has incorporated four films promoted at film festivals by [ The House of Films ]. The festival has chosen the short films Yesterday & Tomorrow (Ayer y mañana) by Rodrigo Ruiz-Gallardón, Duty (Deber) by Ángel Manzano, and 600$ by Oriol Cardús and the full-length film Every Thing Will Be Fine (Todo saldrá bien) by Jesús Ponce.

The Estado de México IFF has organised several Mexican and international competitions for its first edition.

Thus, 600$ by Oriol Cardús is one of the nominees of the "Selección Oficial FICEM / EMIFF - Selección Oficial para Proyección" (Official Screening Selection). This section has 20 short films. They are: 600$ by Oriol Cardús, A través de los párpados by José Luis Briones Macías, A y B by Luisba Fuentes Martínez, Dos días de suerte by Arturo Martinelli, El lamento de Regine by Arturo Martinelli, Espejito, espejito by Alerick Barba Zurita, Fórcepts by Aleksi Herrera Kivinen, Hasta mañana, Amelia by Abraham Ramos, La doña by Alejandro Marcos Ramírez, La último noche de Silverio Cruz by Julian Stubbs, No eras para siempre by Dolores Robres, Libar by Bárbara Daniela Moreno Turcott, Luces brillantes by Alejandro Gerber Bicecci, Masacre en San José by Edgar Nito, Matar al personaje by Verónica María Marín Cienfuegos, Osculum Mortis by Elisa Vicedo, Carlos Marín & Gabriel Alonso Araiza, T-Rex by Ernesto Martínez Bucio, Tome la pistola y empiece a despachar by Eduardo Sabugal Torres, Unqualified by Patricio Solórzano Ruiz de Velasco, and Zerch by J. Xavier Velasco.

With respect to the "Selección Oficial de la Competencia Internacional de Cortometraje" (International Short Film Competition), in which both Duty by Ángel Manzano and Yesterday & Tomorrow by Rodrigo Ruiz-Gallardón have been placed, this contest has added nine nominees. The competing shorts are: Mejor Vida by Otto Oskar Holthzheimer Gómez (Mexico), Zero by David Victori (Spain), Patriot by Eva Riley (United Kingdom), Conclusión Finition by Bárbara Cécile Dusserre (France), Yesterday & Tomorrow by Rodrigo Ruiz-Gallardón (Spain), Cetáceo by Josué Adrián Navarrete Rojas (Mexico), Dama blanca by Sheila Avellaneda (Spain), Duty by Ángel Manzano (Spain), and The Road Less Traveled by Ron Hudson (USA).

For its part, the "Selección Oficial de Largometraje de Ficción en Competencia" (Official Fiction Full-Length Film Competition) has included Every Thing Will Be Fine, the story directed by Jesús Ponce. The seven full-length fiction films nominated in this section are: Estrellas solitarias by Fernando Urdapilleta, La extensión de los dinosaurios by Luis Ayhllón, Los hámsters by Gil Gonzales, Yo soy la felicidad de este mundo by Julián Hernández, Every Thing Will Be Fine by Jesús Ponce, Gringo by José Luis Solís, and La caridad by Marcelino Islas.

In relation to the screenings, the first EMIFF - Estado de México International Film Festival has organised two programmes: one screenings calendar in Toluca de Lerdo, capital of the State of Mexico, and other screenings calendar in Lerma, a municipality near Toluca that belongs to the metropolitan area.

We suspect that a second screening of the feature film Every Thing Will Be Fine by Jesús Ponce has been scheduled in Toluca, probably on Saturday 26th or Sunday 27th. However, the programme in Toluca de Lerdo for these two days has not been announced by the festival, at least, not at the moment of publishing this article.

The EMIFF - Estado de México International Film Festival 2016 will be closed on Sunday 27th November, after eight days of festival.
