Ashen by Jon Mikel Caballero Joins Festival Ull-Nu

Filmmaker Jon Mikel Caballero is taking part at the Festival Ull-Nu of Andorra with his latest short film: Ashen (Cenizo). This film festival started a few day ago but all short film screenings are scheduled this week-end.
The short film Ashen (Cenizo), directed by Jon Mikel Caballero, continues its film festival running and is currently participating at the Festival Ull-Nu 2016, Festival Audiovisual de Joves Creadors dels Pirineus (roughly in English, Young Artists from Pyrenees Audiovisual Festival). This film competition is taking place since Saturday 20th February in Andorra la Vella, capital of Andorra. However, the screenings of all competing shorts, including Ashen by Jon Mikel Caballero, are scheduled during the week-end starting just today.
It will not be today Friday but tomorrow, Saturday 27th February, when this festival will show Ashen, the short by Jon Mikel Caballero. The screening of Ashen is scheduled on Saturday at 19:30 hours and will take place at the Centre de Congressos d'Andorra la Vella (Convention Centre of Andorra la Vella).
The selection of the 4º Festival Ull-Nu consists of 30 short films made by filmmakers under 35 years-old from the Pyrenees region (this year mainly from Andorra; Catalonia, Basque Country, Navarre, and Aragón in Spain; and Midi-Pyrénées in France).
The selected shorts are fighting for the Premi Comissió Nacional d'Andorra per a la Unesco a la Millor Ficció (Best Fiction Award), the Premi Fòrum Nacional de la Joventut d'Andorra a la Millor Animació (Best Animation Award), the Premi Consell General d'Andorra al Millor Documental (Best Documentary Award), the Premi Govern d'Andorra al Millor Videoclip (Best Music Film Award), the Premi Carnet Jove al Millor Videoart (Best Experimental Film Award), and the Premi del Públic (Audience Award). In addition, the Arxiu Nacional d'Andorra (Andorran National Film Archive) is given an award to the film "with the aim of preserving memory through images", called Premi Arxiu Nacional d’Andorra a l’obra amb voluntat de preservar la memòria mitjançant imatges d’arxius.
For its part, Ashen by Jon Mikel Caballero is fighting for the Best Fiction Award, besides of contending for the Audience Award.
By categories, the Festival Ull-Nu has nominated 6 fictions, 6 animations, 6 documentaries, 6 music films, and 6 experimental shorts.
The 6 fiction film shorts selected for competing this year, including Ashen, are: Wolves by Álvaro Rodríguez Areny (Andorra), Café para llevar by Patrícia Font (Catalonia, Spain), Washakie y el chico de las manos mojadas by Eric Monteagudo & Orió Peñalver (Catalonia, Spain), Toribio, un último día by Melisa Ramírez (Catalonia, Spain), Ashen by Jon Mikel Caballero (Navarre, Spain), and Zero by David Victor (Catalonia, Spain).
The competing animation are: Bonastra by Joan Martín (Catalonia, Spain), I Said I Would Never Talk About Politics by Aitor Oñederra (Basque Country, Spain), Una aventura de miedo by Cristina Vilches (Aragón, Spain), Megadudas by Néstor Fernández (Catalonia, Spain), Musicidio by Ferriol Tugues (Catalonia, Spain), and Portrait of a Wind-Up Maker by Darío Pérez (Aragón, Spain).
As for the documentaries contending in this fourth edition of the Festival Ull-Nu, they are: Sumud by Ander Iriarte (Basque Country, Spain), Gloria by Sergi Pujolar (Catalonia, Spain), Huellas de ausencia by Ana Morás (Catalonia, Spain), Padres hooligans by Sara Alba Zelich, Alba Gómez & Alba Cid (Catalonia, Spain), 2t On Paiju Peak by Karen Solé (Catalonia, Spain), and Pêcheur du tarn by Pascal Gaubert (Midi-Pyrénées, France).
The 6 music films that have been nominated are: George Fitzgerald: Full Circle by Alan Masferrer (Catalonia, Spain), Betty Belle: Lucy Bravo by Cristian Martínez (Catalonia, Spain), As: Pálida by Cactus City (Catalonia, Spain), Abisinia by Joan Martorell (Catalonia, Spain), Young: Air Review by Joseba Elorza (Basque Country, Spain), and Luz artificial by David Gonzàlez (Catalonia, Spain).
Finally, tough not the less important category, the experimental shorts in competition are: Cum Dederit by Miguel Andrés (Catalonia, Spain), Futuro by Eva Campos (Catalonia, Spain), Not Himself Only by Pol Escalé (Andorra), Sputtering by Jorge Isla (Aragón, Spain), Think Higher by Berta Oliveres & Josep Prat (Catalonia, Spain), and Duality by Eric Rossell (Andorra).
Including all categories, the Official Competition of the 4º Festival Ull-Nu comprises 26 Spanish, 3 Andorran, and one French films. Classified by region, the selection consists of 19 films produced in Catalonia, 3 in the Basque Country, 3 in Navarre, 3 en Andorra, 1 in Navarre —precisely, Ashen by Jon Mikel Caballero—, and 1 in Midi-Pyrénées.
The screenings, and the 4th Festival Ull-Nu itself, are ending tomorrow Saturday 27th February. The awards will be announced on the same Saturday from 21:00 hours.
